Medallion Quilt Along Border 4

It's the second Friday.  Are you ready for another border?  I have to admit I'm loving how this is coming together.  I hope you are just as pleased with the progress of your quilt.
This month's border frames your quilt in mountains.  You will need a yard of background fabric and lots of scraps. If you have the 2" bow ties cut         If you have 2 1/2" bow ties cut
From background and from scraps                          From background  and from scraps
32- 2" x 6 1/2" rectangles                                        32- 2 1/2" x 6 1/2" rectangles
32- 2" x 5" rectangles                                              32- 2 1/2" x 5 1/4" rectangles
32- 2" x 3 1/2" rectangles                                        32- 2 1/2" x 3 3/4" rectangles
32- 2" squares                                                          32- 2 1/2" squares

Draw a diagonal line on your 2"or 2 1/2" scrap squares depending on the size you used on your bow ties.  Place this on your 2" x 6 1/2" or 2 1/2" x 6 1/2" background rectangles.
Do 16 of them as shown on the right and 16 as shown on the left.
Sew on diagonal line press back and trim seam allowance.  Unit !
Draw a 45* line on your 3 1/2" or 3 3/4" scrap rectangles. Place on top of your 5" or 5 1/2" background rectangle.  Do 16 so the scrap rectangle runs up and down and 16 so the scrap rectangle runs side to side as shown.
Sew on diagonal line.  Trim seam allowance
and press back. Unit 2
Draw a diagonal line on the 5" or 5 1/4" scrap rectangles.  Place on the 3 1/2" or 3 3/4" background rectangle.  Do 16 so the scrap rectangle runs side to side and 16 so the scrap rectangle runs up and down.

Sew on line.  Trim seam allowance and press back. Unit 3

Draw a diagonal line on your 2" or 2 1/2" background rectangles and repeat the process you did in the first step replacing the 2" x 6 1/2 or 2 1/2" x 6 1/2" background rectangle with the scrap rectangles of the same size.  Unit 4 Sorry I apparently forgot to take pictures of these one. Opps!

Take the a Unit one and sew it to the right side of Unit 2 as shown.

Sew a Unit 3 to the left side of the previous piece as shown.
Finally sew Unit 4 to the left of the previous pieces.  Repeat this process to make 16 blocks
Mirror this process to make the remaining 16 blocks.  .
If you have the 2 1/2" bow ties you will want to trim 1/4" off the your blocks.  Do this on the side with the 2 1/2" x 6 1/2" scrap rectangle.

Arrange your blocks into 4 sets of 8 as shown.  You can sew the side sets on to your quilt.
Tomorrow I will give instructions for the corner stone blocks to add to your top and bottom borders.
